How the Family Program works
Family work at ANew happens on two levels. In multifamily education sessions, relatives of current clients learn together: what substances do to the brain, why relapse happens, what recovery realistically looks like, and how the family system either fuels the pattern or helps break it. There is relief in these rooms. Families discover they are not the only ones, and that the confusing things they have lived through have names and explanations.
In family therapy sessions, your own family meets with a therapist to work on your specific situation: rebuilding trust that addiction spent, repairing communication that turned into managing and monitoring, setting boundaries that protect both sides, and saying the things that have waited years to be said. These sessions follow the same principle Dr. Payne brings to all our work: understanding before advising. Families are not blamed here. They are understood, and then equipped.
Participation is always guided by the client’s clinical plan and consent. And when a family member calls us first, before their loved one is ready for treatment, we help them too, because a prepared family is often how a person finally gets here.
